Down The Rabbit Hole

“"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” “She generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it)”

Ruby Starr

My dad gave me a whole bunch of record albums... under the condition that I digitize his Ruby Starr and the Grey Ghost album. Needless to say I had never heard of her or the band, but after seeing a picture of Ms. Ruby Starr, I think I can see why he liked her.

Anyone give a link so I can hear the music?

She sang back up with Black Oak Arkansas for several years, so you can probably look up their stuff.

I first heard her on a Casper, WY radio station in 1977. I went out and bought "Smokey Places". I have been a fan ever since.

I remember seeing Black Oak Arkansas play in Waterloo IA in '76 or '77. The thing that I remember most about the show was Ruby coming out with a bright red sequined dress and a whole armload of roses. She was something to see. I was sorry to hear that she had passed away.

Weird. That's the album I sent out last week (2/08) to get put on CD. Did you get yours? It's an awesome album, can't wait to get it back. I haven't had a turntable to play it for 8 years. Hard to find info on Grey Ghost.... Tman

I have her Smokey Places album, it has a number of great songs and her singing on this album is much better than she ever was with Black Oak Arkansas. I'm still searching for her music as well. Found a reference to her on www.mp3.com/artist/ruby-starr/ & at: http://www.artistdirect.com/

I loved Ruby Starr. I was wondering if someone out there knew of her song, "Burning Whisky?" I have searched for this song for quite sometime and have had no luck finding it. RIP Beautiful Ruby.

Ruby Starr... what voice!! What a performer!! I would make it a point to see her perform whenever she was in the Chicago area. She is the person I use to rate other female singers. She was one of a kind and is sorely missed!!!!

I played in a band based in Toledo and watched her convert from a Brenda Lee sound alike to her own self as a hard rocker. She was a real talent...and is missed.

I guess I must be in some pretty tall cotton. I've got "Ruby Starr And Grey Ghost"; "Smokey Places"; And two copies of "Scene Stealer", all in class "A" vinyl. The Ruby & G.G. is still sealed. I'd sure like to lay my hands on CD's of all three, but I know you know how hard that is to pull off. If you could point me anywhere I'd sure appreciate it. Love the baby, and love her music.
